The Story…
Logline: In a world divided by sectors based on gender; a brave young woman must decide if she will conform to her country’s regime or stand up and fight for freedom for herself and other women alike.
In the dystopian nation of Patrida Chora, a family’s worth is measured by their male offspring, and women are stripped of all autonomy. Girls are taken from their homes at age nine for the Ceremony of Placement, where they are assigned to sectors based on their perceived value—never to see their families again unless chosen for marriage at the Feast of Bachelors. Honey by a Thread follows Emine, a rebellious girl who was secretly taught to read and write by her father. When she’s placed in a higher-ranking sector, she finds friendship with Etka and Peter—two others quietly resisting their roles—and forms a dangerous bond with her mentor, Minerva, a woman from the only all-female sector tasked with preparing girls for a life of servitude.
As the years pass, Emine and her friends cling to slivers of joy found in secret places and shared dreams. But the growing violence, the betrayal of friendship, and the death of a loved one push Emine to the edge. When her best friend Etka is brutally punished, Emine’s act of defiance sets off a chain of events that will change everything. Sacrificing her safety, she escapes with the help of Minerva, only to be hunted by the very people she once trusted—including Dolion, the boy who once called her friend.
As Emine crosses into Sector Five disguised as a soldier, she is welcomed by an underground network of revolutionary women—brilliant, resourceful, and waiting for their moment to rise. Honey by a Thread is a haunting tale of resistance, resilience, and the quiet power of empathy. Though fictional, it is inspired by the global fight for women’s rights and bodily autonomy, offering a mirror to societies where girls are still denied their voice—and a rallying cry for those willing to change it.
